In 2013, Kira (a proud Baltimore resident) and her friend Connie (a Brooklynite and karaoke aficionado) were joking about how great it would be for Connie to sing for Kira every day. That joke quickly became a reality when the "Kiraoke" project was born.
How it works: Kira would send Connie the name of a song or sometimes just an artist. and the very next morning, Connie would sit in front of her computer and film herself singing the requested song and send it to Kira via WeTransfer.
In 2015 and 2016, through the support of Free Fall Baltimore, Connie and Kira were able to share a few of their favorite Connie performances with the inaugural Kiraoke event. Here, attendees could create their very own "karaokegram" (Thanks Haley Lane and Neil Cooler!) to send to their own long distance pal. The event took place at the offices/shop of Majer Metal Works and B&H Chimneys in Mount Vernon with live karaoke provided by Brooke Abercrombie of High Note Entertainment.
Towson University's Asian Arts & Culture Center included the Kiraoke “karaokegram” booth in several events around their Spring 2017 exhibit on the art of karaoke.
